One example-Ishraq http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjuOMbuyg80 A project in rural Egypt empowering “at risk” girls aged 10-14, and training female leaders aged 18-23, using table tennis as the vehicle for social change. 10 sports were initially targeted for a project involving 4 villages. Following the initial pilot project, only table tennis and football were successful, and these sports were continued and expanded to 60 villages. I

TTF together with Egypt Table Tennis Association[ETTA], and NGO’s Population Council and Save the Children worked together on this project. ITTF provided the initial training to ETTA. ETTA and ITTF jointly implemented the project in the villages together with the NGO’s and providing training for the local female leaders. ETTA returned monthly for followup visits and continued training. Villages also were involved in local table tennis table building projects.
