More about Boxgirls International
Informal settlements like Witsand, South Africa are full of unresolved tensions, conflicts and violence. Boxgirls International is a social profit organization that supports women and girls using boxing programmes as a catalyst for social change in their communities. We help girls learn to defend themselves and productively work out conflicts based on the exclusion of girls and young women from roles of dignity and leadership in their society.
We help girls discover their own strength and then use it to tackle conflicts head on and take active part in creating safer communities. We seek out the most dangerous areas to locate our projects and are very proud to be on the front line fighting gender based violence. We also work with boy's organisations to help them work better with girls and women and develop coaching strategies to support the boys to grow into non-violent men.
Boxgirls International works in Nairobi, Berlin and Cape Town delivering excellent coaching through club and school programmes, as well as outreach activities to business, government and media decision makers to improve women's sport, social and economic participation in general through constructive resolution of conflicts based on historical male domination and violence.
