The social issue being tackled is the under-representation of women, especially those from the minority ethnic communities, in society and sport in particular. These communities provide ample opportunity for men to participate openly and actively in all areas of society with access to sport being provided from the grassroots level right up to the elite game. However, the same opportunities and the additional support often required to engage with the women are frequently overlooked. Born to Succeed (B2S) provides a suitable environment, physically and atmospherically, where the focus is on developing the women and girls personally and socially (both intra-culturally and inter-culturally), educating them and helping to integrate them in general society.
The project works to produce players and teams who compete in friendly matches, leagues and tournaments organised as part of the project. We additionally help the women become coaches, referees and volunteers so that they can develop the skills to be involved with sport for the long-term, therefore creating role models and providing the lasting legacy that we are aiming to achieve.
