The "Beyond the Green Pitch" project uses educational sports as a tool to address environment-related issues in the Chapada Diamantina region of Bahia, Brazil, an area replete with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, mangroves, wetlands and caves. reference of ecological tourism in Brazil.
By practicing sports in the midst of nature we work to awaken in adolescents the interest in local environmentally-related themes, as well as, global issues such as climate change. We hold 40-hour training sessions for social educators in Green Sports, a methodology that proposes to combine sports practice, three times a week, with environmental care in the cities where we operate to low income youth.
Green Sport is the practice of sports in the midst of nature and, at the same time, taking action in order to preserve it, in this sense we organize activities aimed at environmental preservation such as water care, solid waste treatment, fire prevention, replanting of native seedlings and forest preservation. There are about six hundred teenagers involved and two hundred social educators trained so far. The project is a partnership between IFA, the UEFA Foundation and Municipalities Mayor’s Offices.
