More about Beyond Athletics
In the heart of Nairobi's Kibera Slums, lies many untold stories: Such as the story of Kennedy, an orphan born in prison to an unknown father and a terminally ill mother, who had to assume a role of sole bread-winner at the tender age of 8. The story of Achieng, a young girl who dropped out of school and got married at the age of 12, and by the age of 17 she is a mother of three children and living in abject poverty in the slums.
These two stories represent those of 285 other children enrolled in our program. Their stories depict a worrying trend of a multi-faceted and systematic exclusion; socially, economically and gender-based. Using sports and education as tools, Beyond Athletic's principal aim is accord children like Kennedy and Achieng the right opportunities to succeed, live a descent life and lead others as agents of change.
