More about Basketball Plus - Hoops for Health
FIBA's Basketball Plus Strategy seeks to facilitate capable National Basketball Federations to deliver high quality basketball activities that allow participants to become healthy, contributing members of the community. It is active as the Hoops for Health program in Fiji, Kiribati, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea, where is uses basketball as a tool to educate participants on NCD risk factors and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. This is delivered primarily in schools, but extends to the communities with the Mum’s A Hero program, which targets mothers and women as they are the influencers of family health decisions. FIBA are developing the sport of basketball regionally in the Indo-Pacific and see a seamless connection with this objective and using sport development to influence positive social development outcomes.
