More about Basketball Health Corps
Shooting Touch’s Basketball Health Corps program uses basketball as a tool to educate and empower the 800 plus at-risk youth we serve in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Carefully selected, scholar-athletes travel to Rwanda for a year long fellowship and work with our in-country staff to help deliver curriculum specifically designed to address major social issues including unemployment, malnutrition, disease (ie. HIV/AIDS, Malaria), extreme poverty, sexual violence and gender equality in youth ages 7-21. With 67% of the population under the age of 25, Rwanda’s youngest generation is in the greatest need of increased opportunities for education and social engagement. Investing and supporting this development through community-based programs like the Basketball Health Corps improves the physical and emotional health of participating youth and demonstrates the powerful impact of sport.
