More about Basketball for Good - Twilight Basketball
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is the global governing body for basketball and our mandate is to support the development and growth of basketball. In Oceania, we developed our Basketball for Good program as we saw the value of using basketball as a tool for social development in the Pacific. The overall goal of Basketball for Good is to increase the capacity of national federations to deliver high quality basketball programs which enable participants to become healthy, contributing members of their communities. This has translated into several different projects, all of which include an objective regarding improved social inclusion and youth leadership, and one specifically contributing to UN SDG 16 Peace and Social Justice; Twilight Basketball. This program uses basketball to positively engage at-risk, idle and unemployed youth and by doing so seeks to reduce youth crime and break down barriers between youth and local police in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The program sits in line with the local Crime Prevention Strategies and FIBA partner with local law enforcement in delivery.
