More about Basketball for Good - Mum's A Hero
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is the global governing body for basketball and our mandate is to support the development and growth of basketball. In Oceania, we developed our Basketball for Good program as we saw the value of using basketball as a tool for social development in the Pacific. The overall goal of Basketball for Good is to increase the capacity of national federations to deliver high quality basketball programs which enable participants to become healthy, contributing members of their communities. This has translated into several different projects, all of which include an objective regarding improved social inclusion and gender equality, and one specifically contributing to UN SDG 5 Gender Equality; Mum’s A Hero. This use basketball as the means to increase participation and leadership of women and girls, and acts as a platform for partners to provide contextually relevant nutritional advice (Fiji), support for domestic violence victims (Timor-Leste) and access to social justice (PNG).
