More about Basketball For Good - Hoops for Health
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is the global governing body for basketball and our mandate is to support the development and growth of basketball. In Oceania, we developed our Basketball for Good program as we saw the value of using basketball as a tool for social development in the Pacific. The overall goal of Basketball for Good is to increase the capacity of national federations to deliver high quality basketball programs which enable participants to become healthy, contributing members of their communities. This has translated into several different projects, including two which contribute to the targets outlined under UN SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being; Hoops for Health and Mum’s A Hero. Both programs use basketball as the means to increase physical activity for women and children in the Pacific and as a platform for educating participants on healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, particularly in relation to non-communicable disease awareness and prevention methods.
