More about Balls to Poverty
Balls to Poverty (B2P) is a college-owned, International, Sport based Educational Charitable Programme. It aims to counter specific social ills of the day by promoting to potentially vulnerable young people a lifestyle choice that’s positive and accessible. It works in the most challenging locations, wards in inner City Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and townships of South Africa identified as being areas of multiple deprivation with a known Organised Criminal Gang Culture. The principle objective is to generate YOUNG Role Models (volunteers), who through personal example promote education, healthy and positive lifestyles, as a realistic, attainable alternative to criminal activity.
The sports of association football and rugby union are used being international playgrounds; they’re easily understood with a common language for self/group expression. Our volunteers deliver interactive, enjoyable sport skill coaching sessions in these sports combined with positive messages/themes where comparisons between being a good team player and a community member, talks are illustrated on the sport fields. Competitive games are organised at appropriate levels to re-affirm competitive friendships and respect. To ensure sustainability the volunteers raise funds so we can leave a sport equipment donation, staff volunteers train local trainers ensuring a lasting legacy is left.
