More about Balls to Poverty
Through attending the college students can access the Balls to Poverty Charity, entry and participation on this programme requires each individual to deliver community volunteering, charity fundraising, their own academic performance and workshop/tutorial presentations. This is brought together through sport; each student works to achieve accreditation (Level 1) in at least one of football, rugby or mixed sports.
Throughout the academic year they volunteer by delivering quality coaching in schools and youth clubs throughout Nottinghamshire, after which they talk with children about the charity and taking positive pathways. In addition each student raises a charitable contribution of at least £250.
To fine tune their skills/experiences and challenge the students we take them each year for 2 weeks to deliver coaching and workshops in deprived South African townships, here the cash raised through fundraising is spent on balls which are distributed to local schools, and sport clubs youth groups so that we leave something sustainable to maintain the initiative. The college staff makes a significant contribution by training the volunteer sport coaches of these townships to maintain the work.
