More about Back on My Feet
BOMF uses running to create a common link between those experiencing homelessness and those who are not. Our members – regardless of race, education or socioeconomic status – join together to move their own lives and the lives of their teammates forward. We offer a comprehensive program that includes job training/placement, educational scholarships and housing assistance as well as create an environment where people come to feel good about themselves, push themselves, and are surrounded by positive people. We believe that no less important than food and shelter is engagement in a supportive community – a place to thrive.
The sport of running shows members that everyone has the same needs for respect and inclusion. We create an environment where bonds develop and stereotypes are shattered, one step at a time. Everyone is working toward the same common goals of achievement and improving themselves, their team and their community.
Through weekly success and achieving running milestones, members gain confidence to take on life challenges that before may have seemed just as daunting as a five mile run. The program teaches members critical work and life skills, such as discipline, leadership, and goal-setting, that can lead toward a road filled with hope and opportunity.
