One Community runs a variety of educational, health and social programs plus works with key charity partners to achieve its aim of using Rugby League to make a positive difference.
Through our mission statement we aim to improve the image of the game and the players in the community; connect the elite level of the game with the grass-roots; assist NRL Clubs to build and improve their community programs; and provide training to NRL players in community relations and emphasise the benefits of this work. Our key educational, health and social programs use Rugby League to engage children in healthy lifestyles, literacy, setting goals and achieving, anti-bullying and positive harmonious lifestyles regardless of race or religion.
These programs are delivered by development officers, teachers, grassroots coaches and administrators, current and former players and NRL Club staff. Our community programs designed to connect the elite and grassroots level of the game include Community Awards, fundraising initiatives, programs that celebrate and acknowledge the role of women in the game and themed rounds that all Clubs both professional and grassroots are engaged in. One of our key goals is to assist our 16 NRL Clubs build their own community programs.
Community relations is relatively new in our Club’s core business and the program we are highlighting in this submission assists them build their budgets and gives the game some common goals in the community space.
