More about Article 31: Promoting children's right to education, play and artistic activity

The physical education currently implemented in schools in Kosovo consists mainly of competitive sport activities, which allow only the “performing” children to succeed; less competitive children are often excluded and discouraged. Moreover, teachers must deal with some children and teenagers suffering from trauma or psychological disorders resulting from the war and its aftermaths, resulting in violent and anti-social behaviour, and they are not properly trained to cope with these situations. This project trains sport teachers to organise physical and artistic activities (PAA) to promote the psychomotor and psychosocial development of their students.

Theoretical courses are alternated with practical sessions implemented by the teachers in their classes, monitored and supported by the pedagogic coordinators of the project. The pupils benefit from these sessions during the year of the training and every year thereafter, once the teachers are trained. This allows them to take part in inclusive and fun physical activities, in which build their self-confidence and their confidence in the others.

Furthermore, quality physical, artistic and cultural activities encourage children to attend school and improve their overall behaviour and performance. The project supports the goals of the government’s education policy and is, in turn, supported by the Ministry of Education.
