More about APAID
Our solution for the exclusion of people with disabilities is adapted physical activities. We use adapted sport first of all to give people with disabilities an opportunity to become aware of, strengthen and show their abilities. Secondly, because sport is a very cost- effective mean of physical rehabilitation that has the additional potential of increasing self-confidence and social interaction. Thus, sport can empower individuals with disabilities.
Lastly, we use sport as a platform to spread information to communities. Coaches use the sport gatherings to give messages about rights of people with disabilities and the athletes themselves inform the audience by showing their abilities. The way we implement adapted physical activities is through local organizations. We realized that many organizations use sport as a tool for social change but lack knowledge to include children with disabilities in their activities.
By building capacity of these experienced and sustainable organizations on the topic of adapted sports, we add value to their existing programmes. APAID’s curriculum enables our partners to run the inclusive programmes while we stay only involved in monitoring and evaluation.
