The sports academy aims to provide opportunities for all children in Annandale & Eskdale with the opportunity to try various sports, deliver top quality coaching and include activities for people with disabilities. Activities are organised throughout Annandale & Eskdale with transport provided free of charge to include those effected by social and rural deprivation. In summary, the Sports Academy is designed with the following aims: -
- To provide opportunities to try various main and minority sports.
- To provide top quality coaching for talented athletes
- Be used as a method of talent identification
- To use sporting idols to encourage participation
- To build links with local clubs and ensure sustainability
- To create and develop new clubs
- To provide opportunities for people with disabilities
- To inform children of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and promote community safety
- To promote healthy lifestyles through advice on exercise and nutrition
- To develop confidence, self esteem and promote respect through participation in sport
- To use sport as a tool in partnership with the local constabulary with the prevention of crime
- To overcome barriers towards social exclusion by providing free transport and offering reduced or subsidised session prices
- To work in partnership – e.g. local, regional & national organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors.
