More about America Rows
USRowing is concerned about the under-representation of minority youth in organized sports and in rowing specifically. Sport is a critical part of American culture and is a powerful platform for inspiring social change. We believe that all of America’s youth should have access to nontraditional sports like rowing. Our nationwide inclusion initiative, America Rows, uses rowing as a vehicle to connect underresourced youth from different social statuses and communities to the sport of rowing. Rowing is important to a young person’s educational development and promotes the necessary skills for critical thinking, teamwork and leadership.
America Rows rowing programs can be found in twenty –five of America’s poorest and most dangerous cities. Many America Rows programs offer mentoring and academic tutoring and we leverage this programming to provide higher education opportunities for the athletes. We are passionate about recruiting and retaining under-represented and under-resourced athletes, and we recognize that diversity will also strengthen the sport of rowing.
