More about AMANDLA Ku Lutsha
Within the football training sessions of each team participating in the AMANDLA football leagues we implement a Life-Skill programme, which educates youth on social issues they are confronted with. One of the biggest cause for any sort of problem among youth, be it HIV/AIDS, crime, teenage pregnancy or drug abuse is peer pressure. We therefore identified e.g. peer pressure as one topic in the Life-Skill curriculum.
The training is used to introduce this topic through activities. In this example we have a number of passing activities that put pressure on single person. After the session the facilitator asks the children what they experienced during the activity. This will lead to the question of where such situation can be found in their daily lives.
The facilitator than emphasises a specific problem, like violent crime due to peer pressure, which will be discussed in detail and practicable solutions will be developed. At the end of every session the participants need to answer three simple questions about the topic. This serves AMANDLA evaluation tool as we can immediately establish if the youth comprehended the intended message. According to their feedback our approach and methods are adjusted to achieve to best possible results.
