More about Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
By celebrating student-athletes who have made a commitment to serving their communities, the Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team has helped to shine a spotlight on volunteerism and the “good works” of college football players before a national audience of college football fans and Allstate customers. This at a time when all too often the media seems more interested in covering off-the-field news related to the troubles of a few student-athletes.
In September 2009, 22 players from all levels of college football were selected as members of the 2009 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team among more than 50,000 student-athletes participating in the sport. The charitable activities performed by these student-athletes included visiting prison inmates, encouraging children with hearing disabilities, building orphanages in the Philippines and serving on a goodwill trip to refugee camps in Afghanistan, among numerous other community service initiatives.
As extensions to the program, Allstate engaged its employees as well as current and past members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team to serve as volunteers for special community service projects in Atlanta and New Orleans during the college football postseason, reiterating the company’s commitment to giving back and serving others.
