More about After School Excellence Program
Over the last decade only 50% of Philadelphia High School students graduated on time. For the remaining young people that don’t finish high school, future is bleak. According to a Drexel University report, 65% of Philadelphia dropouts aged 20-24 are unemployed. In the communities that Snider Hockey serves, things are even worse: only 1 in 4 young dropouts in the Kensington neighborhood have jobs. After-school programs that include supplemental education can help keep students on track to graduate on time. The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation recognizes this need for affordable high-quality, out-of-school programs that foster academic achievement, successful engagement in school, while encouraging healthy habits; as well as the acquisition of skills that help youth transition to post-secondary opportunities and/or the work force.
