Korogocho is a truly desperate place to live. It’s among the largest Slums in Kenya, where Thousands of people live in social problems. Infrastructure is poor and amenities are lacking. People suffer because of disease, drugs, crime, domestic violence and poverty wherever you look. The people make the most of what they have. It’s a terrible mistake to belief that places like Korogocho lack talent and creativity. ACAKORO Football came to Nairobi in 2013 to give hope of a brighter future to the people by establishing a community sports program to accommodate needy and poor children of Korogocho.
Sport is a good social worker, it can provide young people with a positive outlet and teach them valuable life skills. Sport as an intervention to tackle social problems could reduce the risk of a young person being affected by critical social problems.
ACAKORO Football has achieved a lot in main social areas:
1. Reduced Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour
2. Reduced Substance Misuse
3. Improved Educational Attendance and Attainment
4. Tolerance and Cooperation between different Religions and Tribes
5. Increased Well-Being and Health
