More about ‘Izere’, Sports project for recon-ciliation, integration and peace building in Burundi.
The project trains representatives of the diverse (ethic) groups on grass roots level (participants may possible be illiterate or nonspeaking French) to become a sports leader in their own community. At present the project works in four provinces (Bujumbura, Gitega, Ngozi and Makamba).
The participants (male and female) are trained as a sports leader to take roles as a trainer /coach/referee/player/supporter/organiser. Each province has its own coordinator and together with ‘Izere’ in Burundi, the coordinators organise sports events, tournaments and competitions where all different groups meet each other with the aim to realize reconciliation and integration through sport activities and by doing so through meeting each other.
