More about 49ers PLAY 60 to Encourage Health and Wellness for Youth
For the 49ers, the PLAY 60 movement is more than just telling kids to “get out and play … 60 minutes a day,” it is the inspiration to change lives. This commitment was demonstrated in 2010 through over 50 PLAY 60-related events, including one in cooperation with Tottenham Hotspur in London during the week of the NFL International Series game and another at the 49ers Academy in partnership with actor Matthew McConaughey and his just keep livin’ foundation.
These plus over 15 football skills programs, a unique conference for female high school athletes involving female Olympians, the creation of a fitness center at an after-school community center for low-income youth, a “Kids in the Kitchen” fitness and nutrition event at the 49ers Academy, and an impactful pairing of anti-violence messaging and a football skills camp for youth in detention for criminal behavior, have created a comprehensive, multi-faceted, groundbreaking, and, perhaps most importantly, replicable implementation of PLAY 60, changing the lives of the participants. With the backing of 49ers ownership and marquee players and alumni and superstars from Hollywood and London, these programs not only impacted the students who participated but they also brought visibility to the importance of PLAY 60.
