Beyond Sport Mexico saw a unique partnership between Cámara de Diputados (Chamber of Deputies), Beyond Sport, the World Boxing Council and Alazraki Sports come to life for the first time to develop best practice on how Mexico can leverage the commodity of sport to create social good within the country.
Three days of ground-breaking content took place across Mexico City in some iconic venues with over 500 delegates in attendance from the Beyond Sport global network.
The opening day of the event was the Beyond Sport Mexico Award Ceremony, at the iconic Chapultepec Castle, which saw six of the country's biggest names and heroes in sport help present the inaugural Winner. Julio Cesar Chavaz, Fernando Valenzuela, Hugo Sanchez, Lorena Ochoa, Ana Gabriela Guevara, and María del Rosario Espinoza share their personal journeys and discussed the important role of sport for social development in Mexico, and helped us in celebrating the winner - Transformacion Social Traso - of whom received a grant of $25,000USD. Find out more about the ceremony here.
The second day of Beyond Sport Mexico hosted Community In Action, saw hundreds of local children come together to take part in programming run by the likes of the NFL, MLB, Tigres F.C and WBC. The event took place at Universidad Anáhuac, which was converted into an activities hub.
The Beyond Sport Mexicoc Conference was held on the final day at the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec, and included cutting-edge panels, inspirational talks, informative discussion and bespoke networking sessions.
Delegates came to hear from renowned international speakers such as Collegiate Basketball Record Holder and Human Rights Advocate, Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir, President of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, and Vice President of Social Responsibility at Major League Baseball, Melanie LeGrande. There were also inspirational panel talks from experts working on the ground in Mexico such as, President and Founder of Iluminemos de Azul, Gerardo Gaya Real, and also Christian Skoog, representing UNICEF Mexico.
Education, a key social issue in the country, was explored, as well as a discussion on Mega Sporting Events and Sustainable Cities, and a facilitated discussion about Best Practice in Mexico from our Official Award Shortlist Representatives.
The conference produced some incredible content from a variety of amazing speakers who are all committing to action in different ways.
Beyond Sport would like to thank our partners for making this fantastic event possible, thank those who attended and used their voices, and for those who committed to taking action in their communities.
