On July 22, the highly-anticipated Beyond Sport United - backed by US major leagues MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, NHL & WNBA - brought together the most powerful sport-led, social innovators and global leaders to discuss how sports teams and leagues can drive positive social change both locally and globally.
This year's theme: The Power of the Athlete
Every year, Beyond Sport United looks at a key theme within the world of professional sport that is timely and relevant. Following on from last year's focus on engaging young people through digital and social platforms, this year's event took a deeper look into the "Power of the Athlete”.
Sports stars and professional athletes hold tremendous influence - this much we know is true. But how can teams and leagues harness this power for good? From sponsorship to reputation to fan-engagement, how can the sport industry benefit from enabling and supporting athletes to give back, connect with their community, and lead society in a positive way?
Through a mix of interactive story-telling, panels, case-studies, and practical sessions, this year's Beyond Sport United gave an insight into the world of athletes and how teams and leagues can drive their brand to create genuine positive social change.
This year's venue: Switching it up
After four years of Yankee Stadium kindly hosting us in the Bronx, the 5th Beyond Sport United moved to an exciting new venue for 2015: The Prudential Center.
Home to the NHL franchise, the New Jersey Devils, the Prudential Center allowed Beyond Sport United to utilize its cutting-edge facilities, which included interactive sessions around the venue, panels on the grand arena floor and more breakout space than ever before.
We are grateful to Legends, with their creative and imaginative catering capabilities ensuring all attendees received the amazing hospitality experience. (Those of you who have joined us before know what we mean!)
