The winners of the Beyond London 2012 Awards won funding and business support:
Barclays Employability Award
The Barclays Employability Award recognised outstanding organisations and programmes that utilised the Games to increase employment opportunities in communities around the UK. The Winner, which was chosen through an expert judging panel, received a package of business support for their participants, courtesy of Barclays.
Winner: School of Hard Knocks – A rugby programme that works to equip challenged youth emotionally for the unique challenges of the work place, help them to understand the concept of ‘career’ and support them to develop pathways to jobs – during 2012, many of the participants found employment directly as a result of activities arranged around the Olympic Park
The BT Paralympic Momentum Award The BT Paralympic Momentum Award represents a vital part of the London 2012 Games’ legacy: continuous impact. The Award aimed to give peer-to-peer recognition to an individual or organisation that has demonstrated a commitment to making a tangible difference and a sustainable effort around Paralympic sport, and represents the future of the Paralympics and those who are championing its development and growth. The Winner, chosen through a nomination panel of experts, is one that made waves during the Games, but did not let the baton drop the minute they were finished.
Winner: Channel 4, for its continued dedication to the Paralympic Games and movement
The P&G UK Impact Award, supported by Sport Relief
For the second year, the P&G UK Impact Award recognised and supported UK-based organisations using sport to address a social issue in their community. This year, however, the winning programme had to show how it utilised the power, support, resources or inspiration of the London 212 Olympic Games to further its mission and objectives. The Winner, as well as two honourable mentions, received funding from the Beyond Sport Foundation courtesy of P&G and Sport Relief.
Winner: E18HTEEN – A programme providing 1-to-1 mentor support and signposting for identified young people not in education, employment or training living in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest
The Sport Relief Innovation Award
This unique Award went to an organisation in one of the six Olympic boroughs that addresses social issues in their communities – and started using sport (or using it in a more innovative way) as a result of London 2012. Fuelled by the belief that the Games opened the eyes of community leaders to further understand the power sport has to trigger change, this Award provided a package of funding to the Winner from the Beyond Sport Foundation, courtesy of Sport Relief.
Winner: Fathers Football – A programme in Tower Hamlets, started just before the Olympic Games, designed to use football to engage teenage fathers and renew and strengthen their relationships with their children
The RP Global Sustainability Award
This Award recognises an initiative, campaign or organisation that committed to making a tangible environmental impact by providing sustainable opportunities, healthy food offers, environmentally aware programmes, or cutting-edge technology to achieve the ‘greenest’ Olympics ever. Selected from nominations sent in by sustainability experts from around the world, the Winner was one so successful that its actions will be shared, replicated and/or rolled out in Olympic Games and other large sporting events in the future. The Winner received a package of consultancy, courtesy of RP Global, which will help replicate and grow its sustainability efforts.
Winner: Aramark Ltd – which provided the catering service for the athletes and workforce at the Athletes Villages for London 2012. Sustainability was placed at the heart of the operation – a first for global event catering – and succeeded in going beyond the LOCOG sustainability guidelines around food, venue, waste management, and employee training
