The 2020 Beyond Sport Global Awards Categories
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. In 2016, we realigned the Beyond Sport Global Award categories with these Global Goals, allowing us to focus our efforts to tackle the world's biggest problems.
Entries to the 2020 Beyond Sport Global Awards closed June 30.
In July 2020, we will launch the 2020 Collective Impact Awards with a focus on collaborative action to address Gender Equality and Racial Equity.
At least one of the key stakeholders involved in the delivery of the entry has to have been operational for two or more years. This means that the program, project or campaign can be new, but there must be an entity involved that has been established for at least two years
The Health and Well-being Award is for any organization, project, or program using sport as a tool to encourage better health and wellbeing.
Criteria
In addition to following Beyond Sport’s Five Basic Principles, the entry must show that it is contributing toward one or more of the targeted outcomes for Global Goal #3 – Good Health and Well-being:
- Uses sport to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
- Uses sport to make a positive impact on physical health issues and/or
- Uses sport to make a positive impact on mental health issues

The Decent Work and Economic Growth Award is for any organization, project, or programme using sport to support pathways into decent work/develop relevant skills for the workplace.
Criteria
In addition to following Beyond Sport’s Five Basic Principles, the entry must show that it is contributing toward one or more of the targeted outcomes for Global Goal #8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth:
- Uses sport to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
- Uses sport to ensure youth and adults have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and/or entrepreneurship

The Innovation and Tech Award is for any organization, project, or program using sport as a tool to promote innovation and technology.
Criteria
In addition to following Beyond Sport’s Five Basic Principles, the entry must show that it is contributing toward the targeted outcomes for Global Goal #9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
- Support domestic technology development, research and innovation
- Promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization
- Enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries

The Reduced Inequalities Award is for any organization, project, or program using sport to reduce inequalities, increase access to sport for marginalized communities, and to address social issues in their communities.
Criteria
In addition to following Beyond Sport’s Five Basic Principles, the entry must show that it is contributing toward one or more of the targeted outcomes for Global Goal #10 – Reduced Inequalities:
- Empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age,
sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status. - Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating
discriminatory practices and promoting equality.

The Life Below Water Award is for any organization, project, or program using sport to promote marine environmental protection.
Criteria
In addition to following Beyond Sport’s Five Basic Principles, the entry must show that it is contributing toward one or more of the targeted outcomes for Global Goal #14 – Life Below Water:
- Prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution
- Minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification, including through enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels
- Sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts

The Peace and Social Justice Award is for any organization, project, or program using sport to encourage peaceful societies, conflict resolution, violence prevention, or active dialogue or action to make change around a certain issue.
Criteria
In addition to following Beyond Sport’s Five Basic Principles, the entry must show that it is contributing toward one or more of the targeted outcomes for Global Goal #16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions:
- Uses sport to promote, build, or maintain peaceful communities or groups historically in conflict
- Uses sport to provide opportunities and access to justice for all
- Uses sport to actively pursue the rights of a specific group or justice around a specific cause or issue
- Uses sport to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking or other forms of violence against children

Each Category will have a Shortlist of 3-5 organizations and 1 Award Winner. The Winners of these Awards will:
- Receive grant funding from the Beyond Sport Foundation of over $10,000
- Receive a comprehensive business support package
- Receive global recognition on Beyond Sport channels and at the Beyond Sport Global Awards Ceremony
