UNICEF and Glasgow 2014 have joined together in a ground-breaking partnership to aid the Commonwealth’s poorest and most excluded children.
International popstar Nicole Scherzinger and British olympian Sir Chris Hoy are two of the names who will appear in the global fundraising push at the Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony.
There are one billion children of the Commonwealth spread across a diverse range of countries, yet they often face similar dangers - poverty, exploitation and exclusion.
The partnership between UNICEF and Glasgow 2014 will reach every child in Scotland and in every Commonwealth country, using the power of sport to save and change children’s lives and to create one of the Games’ most important legacies.
The partnership will help protect children from poverty, disease and exploitation; providing life-saving food and vaccines to help children grow up healthy and safe; and give millions of children the chance to take part in sport – many of them for the first time.
Spectators, athletes and an expected one billion viewers from across the Commonwealth will all have the chance to play their part in the ceremony and be invited to Put Children First by making a donation via a text number or website which will create a powerful Games legacy for children.
You can support the campaign on social media with the #PutChildrenFirst hashtag on twitter.
