By 2022, there will be 9M+ jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields. But right now, vacancies for these jobs are nearly triple that of other roles. Student interest peaks around middle/secondary school and then drops at an eye-opening rate. 60% of US students have lost interest by high school graduation - with girls abandoning STEM at a higher rate than boys. But, at the same time, maintaining a skilled STEM workforce is vital to society's future; they will lead the way in innovating solutions to address food and energy shortages, cures for diseases, climate change, declining natural resources, healthcare, manufacturing and much more.   

Sport provides a huge opportunity to engage students in STEM. We can use its global appeal – especially to young people – and its ideals of tenacity, collaboration and boundary-pushing to advance STEM education in exciting new ways. That has been the Sport & STEM Alliance's mission since 2017 and we hope that you will become a part.
