As part of the 29th Annual Trauma Conference, held in Boston, MA, from May 30 to June 2, Edgework Consulting is offering Sports-Based Stabilization: Run, Throw, Catch, Compete, and Heal: a full-day pre-conference workshop focused on a deep exploration of the emerging field of sports-based stabilization and sport’s role in helping people affected by trauma.
In attendance, and playing a formal role in the day, will be representatives from organizations that are leading the field in using sport with populations affected by trauma, including:
Street Soccer USA
InnerCity Weightlifting
Soccer Without Borders
Play Rugby USA
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada
Boston University
This full-day workshop will provide attendees with the most current research and frameworks that map how clinical approaches such as CBT, ARC, PCIT, NMT, Post-Traumatic Growth, and the trauma-sensitive schools movement, can be combined with best practices in coaching, sport psychology and positive youth development to shape sports-based approaches to working with populations affected by trauma.
The workshop will look inside sport through the coach's perspective and uncover some of the mechanisms and advantages sport has as a therapeutic medium.
A major portion of the day will be dedicated to facilitating a dynamic forum to dialogue with, and learn from the organizations listed above, that are using sport to work with refugees and new immigrants, the homeless, and other populations for whom trauma often threads through their story.
It's a unique opportunity to convene clinicians, academics, students, coaches, youth workers, and other direct-service practitioners in one room to contribute to the emerging field of sports-based stabilization.
Sport is one of the best mediums available for psychological healing. Sign up here to find out why and how it can play an important role in the future of working with people affected by trauma!
