On April 7, Sky News will launch the first daily prime time news programme dedicated to climate change and the environment. Hosted by Sky News presenter Anna Jones, ‘The Daily Climate Show’ will showcase the work of Sky News correspondents globally as they investigate how global warming is changing our landscape and changing how we all live our lives. It will also highlight solutions to the crisis and show viewers small changes they can make that will make a big difference.
“There has never been a more urgent need to report accurately on the climate crisis and to bring this story to new audiences. In this critical year for action ahead of COP26, The Daily Climate Show from Sky News will feature forensic data-journalism, expert analysis and eye-witness reporting and look at the solutions to climate change,” said John Ryley, Head of Sky News.
The show aims to put people at the heart of its journalism, hearing from those most impacted by climate change as well as scientists and policymakers. The launch comes as Britain prepares to host the COP26 Climate Change Summit, where Sky is a Principal Partner and Media Partner at the summit that will be held in Glasgow this November.
“As we prepare for COP26 in Glasgow I’m delighted to see how Sky, a Principal Partner and Media Partner for COP26, is informing and engaging its viewers about the climate crisis, and the need for urgent action, through the Daily Climate Show. Businesses, including media organisations, have a key part to play on the road to Glasgow and in helping us all build back greener,” said COP26 President, Alok Sharma.
The 15-minute programme will run on the Sky News website and app, on YouTube and Twitter. A companion podcast ‘Climatecast’ will go into more depth on issues covered and will give viewers and consumers a view of how power is being generated and used, and how close the planet is from reaching a potentially catastrophic temperature increase.
Sky News has a long-standing commitment to environmental issues with campaigns to protect the rainforest and to remove single use plastics. It has a dedicated climate change editorial team and Alex Crawford’s documentary “The Plastic Nile" recently won Environment Story of the Year at the Foreign Press Association media awards.
"If this isn’t a commitment to the conversation and the cause, I don’t know what is," posted SkySports presenter and environmentalist, David Garrido, on the announcement.
Climate action is important to Beyond Sport and our partners. On April 15 we will be hosting the Sport for Climate Action Forum presented by Svenska Postkodstiftelsen. The Forum will bring together like-minded individuals and organisations focused on the role sport can play in protecting our environment. Register here for the Sport for Climate Action Forum.
