RIGHT TO PLAY'S NEW YORK CITY PLAY AT THE CORE PROGRAM RECOGNIZED BY THE NEW YORK YANKEES

Right To Play had their Play at the Core program celebrated as part of a New York Yankee’s pre-game ceremony

Beyond Sport award regulars, Right To Play had their Play at the Core program celebrated as part of a New York Yankee’s pre-game ceremony featuring New York City educators, a video presentation and recognition of the Bronx based program on the field at Yankee Stadium which hosted last months Beyond Sport United 2014 event.

“I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate the end of the school year than with 200 Play at the Core friends and family members at Yankee Stadium,” said Jared Carroll, Play at the Core’s Program Manager. “Recognition of our educators’ hard work from the Yankee Organization is an incredible honor, and we are excited to reach even more students in year three.”

Play at the Core is guided by a strategic and long-term goal of narrowing the achievement gap for children living in priority neighborhoods throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Young children from low-income backgrounds often start school behind their more economically advantaged peers. Currently the program is gearing up for a third year set to start in September 2014, which will include training approximately 170 educators from nearly 100 pre-Kindergarten classrooms across the Bronx, Washington Heights, and Harlem.

Right To Play, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education and the Administration for Children's Services, launched Play at the Core, its first play-based early childhood technical assistance program in the United States, targeting high-risk neighborhoods of the Bronx and Harlem in New York City in 2012.
