Paris 2024 Call for Projects Promoting Sport For Social Development in Africa

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games organizing committees and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) - the French Development Agency - have launched the third phase of their "Impact 2024 International" call for projects promoting the value of sport in sustainable development across Africa. This third phase is open until 1 September 2022 and is aimed at athletes and sports associations operating mainly on the continent.
The goal of the program is to finance sports micro-projects dedicated to young people and equity for girls, addresssing equality and inclusion, citizenship, child protection, education, health, environmental protection and vocational training and integration. Considered projects will use sport as a means to achieve their goals while undertaking the Olympic values of creating lasting impact.
"With three years to go before the Games, this call for projects is a symbol of our ambition to build the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games beyond French territory, alongside the AFD," said Tony Estanguet, the President of Paris 2024. "During this difficult economic and social context for the whole of Africa, we wish more than ever to mobilize the associative and sporting actors who use sport as a driver of resilience, solidarity and development for vulnerable populations.
The initial program was launched in 2021 with a commitment of calls being made in 2022 and 2023. The 26 winners of this phase will each receive a grant of up to €40,000.
In addition to financial support, AFD will provide technical assistance to the recipients, including the construction of an economic model, a marketing plan, various communication techniques and an evaluation of the social and environmental impact of these projects.
"This initiative, hosted on the Sport en Commun platform that aims to connect the sport ecosystem and the development finance world, is also part of the international legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals," said AFD chief executive officer Rémy Rioux.
Associations, foundations, local authorities, companies, sports clubs and state structures in Africa are among the bodies eligible to apply, as are French associations and foundations in partnership with a local structure in Africa. Learn more about the eligibility criteria and how to apply here.
