NHL 50/50 Award $100,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of America & Canada

August 21, 2020

On August 15, the National Hockey League’s (NHL) held a 24-hour 50/50+ Sweepstakes presented by official NHL automotive partner Honda to benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Canada. Donations will help build and support ice, ball and street hockey programs for communities in need through local Clubs.

Established more than 100 years ago, Boys & Girls Clubs work to assure that success is within reach of every young person who participates in its Clubs, supporting all members to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, to build strong character and citizenship and encourage healthy lifestyles.

The sweepstakes began with a guaranteed total prize of $200,000 USD open to US and Canadian residents. Half of the prize money was won by one lucky fan, while the other $100,000 went to aid the Boys & Girls Clubs of America or Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, depending on the location of the winner's residence. Hockey fans donated $10 to receive ten entries, $20 to receive 80 entries, or $40 to receive 200 entries.

To further support the inspiring work being done by Boys & Girls Clubs across North America, any amount of money raised above and beyond $200,000 - net of expenses - is set to go entirely to the Clubs. Owen Charters, President & CEO, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, stated that “from physical activity to teamwork to the spirit of fair play, sports are an essential ingredient in helping a young person develop the skills they need to succeed in life."

"Boys & Girls Clubs help build great futures for children as they provide essential programs and services across the United States and Canada," said Jeff Scott, NHL Vice President, Community Development and Growth. "The donations received by Boys & Girls Clubs will create impactful hockey initiatives in local communities, which will help foster critical youth development while growing the game of hockey."

"In these difficult times, Boys & Girls Clubs are doing whatever it takes to make sure kids and teens have access to the tools they need to stay physically active, whether at the Club or at home," says Frank Sanchez, Vice President, Sports & Entertainment, Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
