Beyond Sport Recommends: Life Beyond Sport

July 10, 2020

A new purpose-driven business podcast Life Beyond Sport, hosted by Benchmark CEO (and Beyond Sport Founder), Nick Keller, welcomes extraordinary guests from across society for honest and personal conversations on how sport has shaped their lives in just three stories and with insights on current events.

Each guest brings to the table three key sporting moments that have shaped and defined their life journey – uniting, challenging, providing teachable moments and allowing us to celebrate exceptional occasions, across the world and across generations.

Available on Apple, Spotify or Buzzsprout, current episodes include:

MICHAEL JOHNSON - 13x Olympic & World Championship gold medalist in Track & Field, President and Founder Michael Johnson Performance and Michael Johnson Young Leaders.

Some description
Johnson discusses evolving as an activist, how sport can break down barriers and his Olympic experiences.

PETER FRANKOPAN - author, leading historian and Oxford University Professor of Global History.

Some description
Frankopan expands on sport's role in global history, engaging with our past to understand and take action on our present and the highs and lows of cricket.

BARONESS VALERIE AMOS - leading diplomat, politician and former Leader of the House of Lords and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief.

Some description

Amos talks about her early experiences with racism following her move from Guyana to the UK in the 1960's, her expansive career and taking on the establishment.

Envisioned as more than a podcast, Life Beyond Sport underscores the phenomenal power of sport to define and transport lives in unexpected ways. It is a reminder that across the world sport is used to support people, young and old, and to bring communities together to effect change and make an impact around education, health and inclusion.

"These last months we may all have missed sport, but for others, they have missed a vital lifeline that's often safety, a mentor to guide them, a team to share and provides moments to escape from the harsh reality. I call on everyone to share their own three stories that have shared their lives in sport," stated Keller. "Please share and get involved with your own stories. Sharing your own journey can make a world of difference in someone else's."

Listeners are encouraged to share their own three #LifeBeyondSport stories on social media and consider making a donation to the Sport For Good Response Fund which launched in May to support the sports-based development programmes that are at the heart of communities around the world.

Give a listen and stay tuned for Monday’s episode featuring UK celebrity chef and restaurateur, Jason Atherton! You can also follow Life Beyond Sport on Instagram
