Storytelling organization Goal Click, The Sports Creative, Generation Amazing and Qatar Foundation have teamed up on GOALS, a year-long storytelling program highlighting more than 40 people living and working in Qatar. The stories will be displayed at the GOALS Exhibition in VCU Education City, Doha throughout the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
From migrant workers and students to artists and community football coaches, the GOALS storytellers are a diverse group of people who have shared their own unique first-person perspectives on football culture in Qatar, community and life in the year of the World Cup. “When was the last time you heard directly from a Ghanaian electrician, an Iranian female football player or a Bangladeshi scaffolder-turned-coach living in Qatar?” state the organizations.
The project formally kicked-off in November 2021 with participants - who represent more than 20 nationalities, the majority of whom are women - offered the chance to develop new storytelling skills and given a global platform to share their personal experiences.
The inspiring stories have been captured by the GOALS participants through the mediums of analogue and digital photography, written word, audio and video, with content housed across Goal Click and Qatar Foundation platforms.
Since 2014, Goal Click has given people across the world a platform to share real stories about their own lives and football communities. The platform and network curates unique and untold first-person stories across the themes, competitions and initiatives that matter. The organization started with one disposable camera in Sierra Leone and has evolved its content formats - from analogue photography to social video, audio, and documentary filmmaking - and is now growing into other sports.
The Sports Creative believes in the power of play for every young person, in every community. The non-profit creates community-led sports and storytelling programs for at-risk youth, supporting their physical, social and emotional well-being.
