George Washington University Sports Philanthropy Program announces new scholarships

The George Washington University Sports Philanthropy Executive Certificate Program have announced this week that a number of selected Beyond Sport Award winners will receive honorary scholarships in their next cohort.

The winners of the program scholarships were selected from the Beyond Sport Global Awards 2017 Shortlist by a panel of industry professionals at the university.

Each organization was selected based on mission of the organization, impact they are having on the community and their plans for the future.

The winners will have the opportunity to participate in the Spring 2018 cohort of the program that begins in February. Beyond Sport Award Winners that were chosen include:

2nd Chance Group:

Some description

Located in the United Kingdom, the 2nd Chance Project Beyond Bars Initiative uses sport in prison to target the 3% of the population, who cause 90% of crime in society. They do this because they understand that sport inspires, engages and provides opportunities for lifelong change. 2nd Chance brings partners together to become more effective and confident at supporting offenders. In doing so, partners continue supporting offenders when statutory services drop off and continue to provide positive networks and peer relationships.

Soccer in the Streets:

Some description

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Soccer in the Streets empowers underserved youth through soccer training, character development, mentoring, and employability programs. The organization serves in a holistic and comprehensive way, reaching kids on the field, in small-group classroom sessions, through hands-on experiences and activities, and participation in youth leadership councils.

Girl Determined:

Some description

Located in Myanmar, Girl Determined’s Colorful Girls Volleyball Program uses the sport to support adolescent girls in overcoming intersecting obstacles towards personal empowerment and increasing status at the community and national levels. The program directly addresses ethnic and religious discrimination, restrictive gender norms, school dropout, gender-based violence, and risky labor and migration. Girl Determined’s girl-focused discussions and sports activities are led by a team of all-female, trained staff to help girls find their voices and determine their own futures.

As part of its partnership with Beyond Sport, the George Washington University is offering a special discount for the spring 2018 cohort of the sports philanthropy program that kicks off on February 22.

Apply HERE by January 5 and mention Beyond Sport to receive $500 off of the enrollment fee.
