Generation Amazing Call for Proposals for International School Exchange Program

August 26, 2022

The legacy initiative of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, Generation Amazing (GA), recently launched "Goal 22: Football, Social Impact and Sustainability". This first-ever international school exchange program alongside a FIFA World Cup is part of its mission to ensure a lasting legacy following the biggest event of the sporting year taking place this November in Qatar.

The aim of the year-long program is to empower young people who are passionate about football with skills that they can use off the pitch to champion sustainable development. GA is looking for partners to join this journey and is inviting inviting youth delegations from every one of the 32 countries competing at the World Cup to join the 2022 Generation Amazing Festival – a football for good tournament and event encompassing cultural activities and awards ceremony celebrating participants’ achievements.

“It is a unique opportunity. Not just to stage an unforgettable football tournament but to harness football’s power to do good off the pitch. We want the tournament’s legacy to be a lasting contribution to international development,” said Nasser Al Khori, Executive Director at the Generation Amazing Foundation. “Goal 22 is all about nurturing partnership and collaboration between key community stakeholders and delivering meaningful and successful community initiatives.”

GA is coordinated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy with a goal of fulfilling Qatar’s promise to use the hosting of the World Cup as a catalyst to empower people across the region and beyond. Its football for development approach uses the sport to teach gender equality, inclusivity and life skills such as communication, organization, teamwork and leadership to youth.

Some description

Goal 22 has three key phases: Foundations of Sport for Development, Generation Amazing Youth Festival 2022 and Pass It On, Community Engagement.

Phase one is theoretical and will be virtual. It looks at sport as a means to empower youth and pinpoints the Foundations of Sport for Development. The aim is to empower young people to drive sustainable solutions through understanding how sport can be used as a tool for development and peace and providing them with the needed knowledge, skills and tools to fulfil their potential and champion sustainable development.

Phase two is practical and in-person. It demonstrates how to create impact through the Generation Amazing Festival 2022 at Education City’s Oxygen Park in Doha. Through workshops and other activities, participants will gain insight into the practical applications of sport for development education. The intention is to equip attendees with an understanding of the power of sport to transform communities. As a result, youth will learn to use their passion to fuel a sustainable journey of positive social impact.

Phase three is a hybrid of virtual and in-person and focuses on the community engagement program, ‘Pass It On’ and how to drive change. It intends to equip young people with the necessary tools to work with peers from across the world to develop, design and deliver impactful community initiatives that use the power of football to safeguard people and the planet.

The young people taking part will all be selected with diversity, inclusion and sustainability in mind. Each delegation from the 32 countries consists of a physical education teacher, two youth representatives (male and female) from the Under-21 national football association and a school group including six to eight international school students in Grades 11-12 aged 16 to 17.

Additionally, to celebrate the first FIFA World Cup in the Arab region, one youth representative will be invited from each of the Arab football associations and a select group of young people will be invited to represent the organizations and communities that GA has worked with before.

The deadline to submit a proposal for Goal 22's 'Pitch to Deliver' is September 10.
