Fred Turner has over 10 years’ experience working in sport, development and social change.
As Executive Director of global foundation Beyond Sport, he leads on efforts to place sport at the heart of addressing the world's most pressing social issues. He is responsible for the strategic growth of the organization leading on the delivery of global multi-million-dollar grant giving initiatives, program and partnership development, non-profit capacity building services and campaigning.
In order to fully leverage Beyond Sport’s platform for social change, Fred oversees collaborations with a diverse range of partners, including: sport leagues (NBA, Premier League, NFL and MLB); teams (LA Dodgers Foundation, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation); academic institutions (NYU and George Washington University); brands (ESPN, DICK’S Sporting Goods, SAP, The North Face and WWE); funders (Sport England, UK Sport and Comic Relief); and international NGOs and UN entities.
In his first year as Executive Director, he transformed the Foundation’s structure, including building a new global Board of Directors and inaugural Youth Advisory Board, while also launching timely programs focused on collective approaches to address equity, diversity and inclusion across the sport for development sector and racial justice in the U.S.
Fred is passionate about bringing people of varied backgrounds and experiences together, united by a specific cause, sector or focus, to trigger transformative change based in education, innovation and collaboration. He spent much of his early career curating insightful event programs covering a multitude of social issues and engaging experts and managing stakeholders for live and virtual convenings across the world.
Prior to Beyond Sport, he worked with prominent UK sport and business network, Sport Industry Group, and global corporate relay initiative, Square Mile Sport - helping to lead their events, production and content offerings. Fred sits on the Commonwealth’s Open Ended Working Group for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the BOND SDP Group, and is a regular judge for the biggest commercial sport business awards in the world, the annual Sport Industry Awards. He is also a regular volunteer for Parkinson’s UK and is passionate about all things sport!
