Over the last week, Beyond Sport Global Award Winners, Kick4Life, hosted a group of FIFA staff as part of a new Employee Volunteer Program launched by the world's governing body of football.
Kick4Life F.C. is a unique football club based in Lesotho in southern Africa. As a charity and a social enterprise, their mission is to change the lives and long-term prospects of vulnerable young people in Lesotho.
The FIFA employees, who come from a range of departments within the governing body, have participated in a wide range of activities -- learning about the work of Kick4Life, observing program delivery and participating in health education and life-skills activities. They have also contributed to the organisation's work through tree planting and gardening and undertaking a strategic challenge around Kick4Life's new Stadium of Life project.
FIFA have supported the work of Kick4Life through the FIFA Foundation since 2009, including the development of a centre as part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Kick4Life have since developed a number of social enterprises at the site, including a restaurant, a hotel and a conference centre where the FIFA employees have stayed.
K4L Co-founder Steve Fleming said: "We have been thrilled to host such a brilliant group of people from FIFA who have invested so much energy into Kick4Life over the last week."
Since 2014, their social enterprise model has enabled them to sustain and grow their impact through sustainable business, while also delivering employability training to over 1000 youth and providing full-time employment to over 100 young people. Kick4Life has also created Social Enterprise Assist, a toolkit to support other organisations in launching income-generating enterprises. They are now working with S4SC projects globally to help them improve sustainability, create jobs and increase impact.
