Survey: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in Sports Analytics

April 23, 2021

The University of Toronto is mounting a unique study into equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the sports analytics profession. Believed to be the first of its kind study, researchers are currently requesting input via a survey from those working in the profession to contribute to a new understanding on EDI in the sector.

Sports analytics involves the collection, analysis and interpretation of sport/athlete data to gain a competitive advantage for a team or an individual athlete. The sports analytics profession has grown rapidly over the past few years and, as a result, little information is known about the individuals working in these jobs.

From 2019 to 2025, the $775 million worldwide sports analytics industry (2018 data) was projected by Grand View Research to grow at a 31.2 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

Some description

If you are currently working in sports analytics, you are encouraged to take the anonymous survey by 21 May 2021. The study is being conducted by Dr. Timothy Chan and Dr. Jason Vescovi at the University of Toronto as part of a larger Sports Analytics Research Initiative.
