Danish football side Nordsjaelland commit to Juan Mata's Common Goal

Danish Superleague side FC Nordsjaelland have become the first football club to commit their entire team and staff to Juan Mata's charity initiative Common Goal.

The team announced this week that their entire club will be committing to Common Goal, the community outreach football initiative started by Manchester United's Juan Mata.

Ahead of their last home game of the season against Copenhagen on Monday night, the club announced they will be giving away one per cent of their total stadium revenues to the cause in a pioneering move.

Leicester City goalkeeper and Denmark international Kasper Schmeichel was on hand to sign the contract ceremoniously on the club's behalf. Schmeichel himself is one of 48 people to have joined up to support Mata earlier this year.

Additionally, the entire 10-member management and backroom staff has pledged one per cent of their salary as has club chairman Tom Vernon. All players and administrative staff contracts include the same one per cent pledge with an ability to 'opt-out'.

Common Goal co-founder Jurgen Griesbeck said the decision was a 'game-changer' for the charity.

'Already we have allocated almost half a million Euros for investment in high-impact football organisations but to have FC Nordsjaelland lead the rest of the football world by becoming the first club to join is a huge step for the movement and for the sport.'
