Coach Hector Guzman makes successful visit to Medellin
Renowned boxing trainer Hector Guzman visited the programme ‘Camino al ring’ (road to the ring) in Medellin, taking advantage of his trip to Colombia. Guzman led two training sessions with the participants of La Honda, Comuna 3 of the Antioquia capital, highlighting the social potential of the organisational work of Grupo Internacional de Paz (GIP).
"It was of great pleasure for me to meet people with common interests to mine and to contribute to youth development from the very reality. Brotherly love and the impossible of poetry is what is needed to save this world," said the Dominican resident of Miami, US.
Guzman, a man committed to social causes through sport, prepares athletes from various martial disciplines. These include boxing, karate and muay thai as well as tennis players and footballers in various training techniques and components such as nutrition and psychology, which is one of his areas of academic training.
In Medellin, he shared with the young people from La Honda, located in a vulnerable sector of the city, and apart from sharing his knowledge, he left behind some of his coaching experience through demonstration.
'Camino al ring' is a programme developed in Medellin in agreement between the GIP and ADA (Apoyo Deportes Amigos). It is a methodology that aims to generate beneficial impact on the social level, thus promoting favourable conditions for coexisting reflections. GIP plans to replicate the model “Camino al ring” in different territories of Colombia, initially in San Bernardo del Viento, Leticia and Valledupar. These are processes that will have Guzman as a strategic ally.
GIP is committed to social transformation for building peace in the region, employing innovative mechanisms to strengthen the capacities of people management, communities and society, and break the intergenerational cycle of violence. We believe that sport, science and art are our best allies.
