CITY FOOTBALL GROUP LAUNCHES KIDS STARTUP WORKSHOP

May 10, 2019

City Football Group, which owns Premier League club Manchester City, has launched City Startup Challenge Kids, a new creative workshop for children aged seven to 11.

The initiative gives children with an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) the chance to develop ideas that can enhance matchday experiences for clubs within the CFG portfolio. The first workshop will take place on Saturday, 6th July at the City Football Academy in Manchester.

Participants will be introduced to entrepreneurship and start-ups and find out how technology is having an impact on sport. Groups will then be tasked with developing innovative ideas for given themes before presenting them to a panel of CFG representatives. Parents will also be invited to watch.

CFG will explore the best ideas from each theme, with the possibility of some initiatives being tested at a CFG club next season. Stand-out groups will also be offered prizes such as behind-the-scenes  matchday experiences.

Some description

Nuria Tarre, Chief Marketing Officer at CFG, said: “We pride ourselves on integrating technology with football, being innovative and always thinking about what we could be doing differently, so it’s exciting for us to be engaging with a new group of creative thinkers as part of the Group’s wider aim to engage with the next generation of football fans.”

“We know children can be very imaginative, and we hope that this event will give participants an immersive environment to develop their ideas. We want them to learn more about technology and sport, have fun and help us think about the future of football in a new way. We can’t wait to see what they come up with.”

The new initiative comes on the back of the launch of City Startup Challenge, a five-day accelerator through which start-ups can demonstrate ideas for collaboration with CFG. This week-long programme runs from 24th-28th June.
