BEYOND SPORT UNITED TOP-LINE PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
In 2017, Beyond Sport United, supported by the major US leagues - MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, NHL, and the WNBA - will draw together sports teams, leagues and brands with global development organizations, grassroot practitioners, social movement and campaigning entities, and international sports governing bodies to explore where sport’s role is in the current socio-political landscape.
The past year has been perceived to be one of the most politically strained and socially active times the world has experienced. From the UK voting to exit the European Union, to the US presidential election, to the refugee crisis across the Middle East, social issues have been lobbied, protested, debated, and campaigned.
This year’s theme ‘social movements, advocacy and activism’ will explore approaches from campaigning, to lobbying, to taking action on the ground, looking at what can sports teams, leagues, and their partners do to make a difference in the social issues they care about.
This year’s Beyond Sport United program will be bigger and more robust than ever before, taking place over two days in New York City, July 26-27, which will include community-driven content, thought-leadership discussion, and an inspiring evening celebrating the Beyond Sport Global Awards, which highlight and support the world’s most impactful and innovative projects using sport as a tool for social change.
