Humanitarian & NBA Great Dikembe Mutombo Joins Beyond Sport House from Home Special Edition

November 13, 2020

Since October, Beyond Sport House from Home attendees have heard from, questioned and collaborated with dynamic leaders from across sport for social change and professional sport – all with the goal of expanding our collective knowledge as a sector to drive social change through sport, collectively, locally and globally.

Now, we are excited to close out 2020’s three-part series on November 17 with a virtual Mini-Mondial in partnership with the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation. The Peres Center is one of Israel's leading non-profit NGOs, developing and implementing unique and cutting-edge programs in innovation, sports, cultivation of leadership and entrepreneurship, health, business and the environment.

With a world in turmoil, Part 3 of House will be a special edition of the Peres Center’s annual Mini Mondial – a World Cup themed tournament dedicated to bridging divides and building peace through sport. Together, we will explore sport’s role in removing barriers to peacebuilding and social justice across the Middle East and globally.

Efrat Duvdevani, Peres Center CEO, Jonathan Shrier, Deputy Chief of Mission for the US Embassy in Israel and Oren Hasson, President of the Israel Football Association (IFA), will open the “tournament” with messages underscoring how sport and collaboration can be instrumental in reaching Global Goals, namely Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

Following, representatives from Generations for Peace, the Peres Center, and Generation Amazing will share successes and learnings on local approaches that leverage sport in the Middle East. José Mourinho, former footballer and arguably one of the greatest managers of all time, will also make an appearance with a taped message.

Attendees will then have the opportunity to be a part of a global ideation workshop, led by the IFA, love.fútbol, Peres Center and a selection of global young leaders on sport for peace and social justice through curriculum, safe spaces, purposeful leadership and empowering the next generation.

And we are thrilled to have Dikembe Mutombo, NBA Global Ambassador and CEO & President of the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, take part in an inspirational conversation with Beyond Sport Founder and President, Nick Keller.

Closing out the session and the series will be a reflective discussion on the Global Landscape where we will take a look at successful approaches and methods from around the world. Some of the best at bridging divides through sport – PeacePlayers International, the Peace Parks Foundation, Laureus Sport for Good and the University of Tennessee Center for Sport, Peace and Society – will provide firsthand insights gained from their programs and partnerships.

It’s been a joy to connect with our network and new friends from around the world, and we hope to see you at this final session of our 2020 series. Join us to experience real change through sport, from home. For more information and to register, click here (general and NGO passes available).
