In 2017, thanks to the support of Beyond Sport’s donors and partners, the Beyond Sport Foundation has experienced its most influential year, awarding grants to community organizations totalling over $130,000, reaching 13 different countries, across 10 different sports.
Since 2008, the Beyond Sport Foundation has used its global platform to celebrate, support, raise awareness and provide funding for organizations using sport as a tool to create positive social change in communities around the world.
Over the past 10 years, the Foundation has been able to support over 180 organizations worldwide, providing over $700,000 in cash funding, and distributing over $6 million in long-term strategic support.
The Beyond Sport Foundation is linked to Beyond Sport’s world renowned Global Awards, a program that allows them to unearth the best organizations from around the world that are using sport to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Grants were awarded this year to the following organizations using sport to create positive social change:
Winner of the Sport for Health and Wellbeing Award: Everton In The Community – Imagine Your Goals, Everton F.C.
Everton in the Community uses the power of football as a vehicle to positively address mental illness by raising awareness and challenging societal stigma.
Winner of the Sport for Peace and Social Justice Award: Mi Vida es un Diamante (My Life is a Diamond) - Grupo Internacional de Paz
Mi Vida es un Diamante reaches children and youth, without distinction of gender, creed, race or economic status; giving priority to the most vulnerable to armed conflict in areas of Columbia and Mexico.
Winner of the Sport Quality Education and Employment Award: Alive and Kicking
Alive and Kicking create fairly paid, ethical employment in regions of Kenya, Ghana, and Zambia through the manufacturing and selling of sports balls.
Winner of the Sport for Innovation and Tech Award: Station Soccer - Soccer in the Streets
Station Soccer open up the game of soccer to minorities and those from low income backgrounds by making the game affordable and accessible across the USA.
Winner of the Sport for Equality Award: Colorful Girls Volleyball Circles - Girl Determined
Girl Determined facilitates girls’ recognition of their personal and group potential, in a community where gender inequality is rife and women’s life choices curtailed. In Myanmar, they are sparking a movement of girls with leadership skills to advocate for their own rights and futures.
Winner of Best Partnership or Collaboration: National Alliance of Sport for the Desistance of Crime (NASDC) - 2nd Chance Group
The National Alliance of Sport for the Desistance of Crime provides a voice for the sector through the convening of the best people to support the delivery and evaluation of best practice in using Sport for Development across the criminal justice system.

Beyond Sport have over 3,000 organizations in their network that are operating in the sport for social development sector. Some examples of donations include:
$500 - Boys & Girls changing rooms at primary school in Uganda
$2500 - Girl-specific education and empowerment training; pregnancy prevention and support for young mothers in Haiti
$3750 - Rent for a disability football venue for a year in UK
