Fields of Dreams Uganda found that orphaned children face huge obstacles after starting their menstrual cycles. Using sport and educational programming as part of the Girls Empowerment Project, Fields of Dreams Uganda provide hope to many orphaned and vulnerable children of Uganda. The Girls Empowerment Project inspires girls to stay in education and strive to reach their goals as well as providing hygiene kits. Over 6000 children have gone through educational programmes, whilst 1,500 girls have been provided with hygiene kits in the country.
Upon receiving the Award, Field of Dreams Uganda have grown from strength to strength and have managed to expand and even go on to renovate a local primary school. We are delighted to hear of their success.
Fields of Dreams Uganda have used the funds received on the back of the Beyond Sport Award to renovate the soccer pitch at Pageya Primary School filling holes, levelling the land, building goals and providing greater opportunities for both male and female athletes in Northern Uganda. On top of this, the organisation has renovated the girls changing rooms of the school, allowing the girls a safe, clean and hygienic environment to get changed and wash.
Field of Dreams Uganda are soon to be hosting the Girls Hope Cup, to coincide with the Boys Hope Cup in December to raise awareness and provide hope for the orphaned and vulnerable children of Uganda through soccer and education. The use of funds from the Beyond Sport Awards are being used to continue to empower girls at partner schools around Northern Uganda and provide all participants with continued opportunities to expose their talents, and find more comfort.
It is fantastic to see the growth of organisations on the back of the Beyond Sport Awards, supported by Comic Relief.
