BASIS ATTITUDES AND APPROACHES TO SUSTAINABLE SPORT SURVEY AND CONFERENCE

BASIS, (The British Association for Sustainable Sport) nurtures and supports sustainability in all aspects of sport

BASIS, (The British Association for Sustainable Sport) nurtures and supports sustainability in all aspects of sport. The core objectives of BASIS are to share and develop best practice and integrate sustainability into all aspects of sport; to encourage and facilitate collaboration between those concerned with sustainability and sport and to use the influence of sport to educate the public about sustainability issues.

BASIS is repeating its 2011 survey looking at attitudes and approaches to sustainability in sport. BASIS is hoping to understand how things have changed since then and how they are likely to change in the future. This time they have added the opportunity for all venues to benchmark their performance against their peers by providing utilities and waste management information. All venues supplying this data will be offered a bespoke report indicating their performance against others in their sport and against the sports sector as a whole.

To participate in the survey click here. The deadline for the completion of the survey to receive your bespoke benchmarking report is Friday 3rd October 2014. The questionnaire should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete. If you have any questions please contact [email protected].

BASIS is also hosting its fourth annual conference at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Tuesday 21st October 2014. This fourth annual conference will bring together people from professional and community sport including governing bodies, clubs and venues along with policy makers, academics and others.

The common thread is the desire to incorporate sustainable development principles into our organisations to reduce our environmental impacts, enhance the communities we live and work in and reduce costs of operations.

The morning will see speakers from major events in the UK in 2014 including the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Tour de France Grand Depart and the Ryder Cup. The afternoon has breakout sessions including sustainability in community sport, sustainable sport turf management, energy use in sports venues and other subjects. For the current conference schedule click here. More information on speakers, break-outs sessions and exhibitors will be released as we approach the event.

Should you have any questions about BASIS in general please contact [email protected].
